Fort Wayne, Ind. – Damaging wind gusts, large hail, and isolated tornadoes could sweep through Indiana tonight, with the most dangerous conditions likely between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m. Friday across the central and northern parts of the state.

According to the National Weather Service, an Enhanced Risk for severe weather is in place for much of northern Indiana, including Fort Wayne, South Bend, and Elkhart. Central Indiana cities like Indianapolis and Kokomo fall under a Slight to Moderate Risk, with the greatest danger occurring from 6 p.m. to midnight. Storms are expected to bring wind gusts exceeding 70 mph, hail larger than two inches in diameter, and isolated tornadoes. Confidence is highest north of US-30, where the strongest cells are forecast to develop.

Residents in Warsaw, Goshen, and Marion should secure outdoor items, charge electronic devices, and remain indoors once storms begin. Travel could be hazardous due to downed trees or power lines, especially on highways like I-69 and US-31.

This is Indiana’s most significant severe weather threat so far this May. More storms are possible Friday. Stay weather-aware and keep alerts enabled overnight.
