Fort Wayne, IN – Temperatures are expected to rise significantly today, with highs reaching into the 80s, approximately 10 degrees warmer than yesterday. Partly cloudy and breezy conditions are anticipated, providing some relief from the heat.

According to the US National Weather Service Northern Indiana, the region is bracing for a major heatwave next week. Highs are projected to reach the low to mid-90s, with heat indices soaring between 100 to 105 degrees. This extreme heat is forecasted from Sunday, June 16, through at least Wednesday, June 19.

The weather service has issued a Level 4 Extreme Heat Risk for the Midwest and Great Lakes regions, highlighting the potential for dangerously high temperatures. Residents are urged to prepare by ensuring their air conditioning systems are functional and knowing the locations of cooling shelters. It’s also recommended to gather essential supplies, including water and medication, and check on vulnerable family members and neighbors.

Health officials advise staying hydrated, avoiding outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and taking frequent breaks if working outside. The public is also encouraged to remain vigilant for signs of heat-related illnesses, such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke, and seek immediate medical attention if symptoms occur.
