Northern Indiana – An active weather pattern is expected across northern Indiana today and tonight, with rain, gusty winds, and a marginal risk of thunderstorms before cooler air moves in Friday.
According to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana, strengthening low pressure will push temperatures into the 50s Thursday, followed by increasing cloud cover and a chance of rain later in the day. Showers are expected to develop west of U.S. 31 before 6 p.m. and become more widespread during the evening.
Forecasters say showers — and possibly a few thunderstorms — will expand overnight, with the highest coverage occurring before midnight. There is a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms after 10 p.m. EST, with damaging wind gusts identified as the primary concern. Confidence in severe weather remains low.
Southerly winds will increase tonight, with gusts reaching 30 to 35 mph, before shifting to the west by midday Friday.
Friday will begin mild, with temperatures potentially near 60 degrees early, before sharply falling into the 40s by late afternoon as colder air moves into the region. Rain chances diminish as the day progresses.
Residents are encouraged to stay weather-aware this evening and monitor updates in case thunderstorm or wind impacts increase.
