Steuben County, IN – A high-speed police chase across northern Indiana ended with an arrest Sunday night after a suspect allegedly fled officers in Fremont and led police through two counties before being taken into custody.
According to the Indiana State Police Fort Wayne Post, the incident began Sunday evening shortly after 8:00 p.m. when Fremont Police attempted to stop a vehicle traveling southbound on State Road 109. The driver allegedly refused to pull over, prompting a pursuit.
ISP troopers monitoring radio traffic moved into the area to assist. After officers briefly lost sight of the suspect, a trooper located a vehicle matching the description traveling south on Interstate 69 in Steuben County at a high rate of speed.
Police say the vehicle — later identified as a blue Acura — continued fleeing south into DeKalb County. With clear weather and heavy traffic conditions, troopers coordinated with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department to safely slow the suspect.
Deputies deployed stop sticks on I-69, which gradually deflated the vehicle’s tires. Despite the damage, the driver allegedly exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot.
Authorities say the suspect was captured following a brief foot pursuit and taken into custody, even as he allegedly continued to resist arrest.
The driver was identified as Adolfo Mejia-Fuentes, 19, of Indianapolis. He was arrested on a charge of resisting law enforcement using a vehicle, a Level 6 felony.
Mejia-Fuentes was transported to the Steuben County Jail by a Fremont Police officer.
The Indiana State Police Fort Wayne Post credited assistance from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department and the Fremont Police Department during the pursuit.
All charges are based on probable cause. All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
