Northern Indiana – Residents can expect unseasonably warm temperatures to linger through Monday before cooler air and showers move in, according to the US National Weather Service Northern Indiana.
Forecasters say highs will reach the mid-80s across much of the region Sunday and Monday, with overnight lows staying mild in the upper 50s to low 60s. The weather service warns that the combination of gusty winds and dry air could elevate the risk of grass or field fires on Sunday.
According to the extended forecast, a cold front will bring showers and a slight chance of storms Monday night into Tuesday morning, dropping temperatures significantly by midweek. Tuesday’s highs are expected in the mid-60s, with continued cool and dry conditions through Thursday.
Meteorologists note that the pattern shift marks the end of an unusually warm start to October across northern Indiana and nearby areas, including South Bend, Fort Wayne, and Elkhart.
Residents are urged to use caution with outdoor burning through the weekend and prepare for rainy commutes early Tuesday as the front moves through.
