Fort Wayne, IN – Above-normal temperatures will continue across northern Indiana through Christmas Day, but a wintry mix could create hazardous travel conditions Friday morning.

According to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana, periods of rain showers are expected tonight and again on Friday. Patchy fog and drizzle may also develop overnight, potentially reducing visibility during late-night and early-morning travel.

Christmas Day is expected to remain mostly dry, with mild conditions continuing across the region. High temperatures are forecast to range from the upper 30s to near 50 degrees, well above late-December averages.

Attention then turns to Friday morning, when some freezing rain may mix in across portions of northeast Indiana, southeast Michigan, and northwest Ohio. Forecasters warn that even light ice accumulation could create slick roads and hazardous travel conditions, particularly during the morning commute.

Elsewhere, precipitation is expected to fall mainly as rain as temperatures remain above freezing. Conditions are expected to improve later Friday as temperatures rise and precipitation tapers off.

The National Weather Service advises drivers to remain cautious during periods of fog, drizzle, and potential freezing rain, especially on bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads.

This outlook is especially relevant for holiday travelers, commuters, and overnight workers heading out Friday morning across the tri-state region.

Residents are encouraged to monitor forecast updates closely, as small temperature changes could significantly affect precipitation type and travel impacts.
