South Bend, IN – Residents across northern Indiana are bracing for another blast of winter cold tonight, with temperatures dropping sharply behind a passing cold front and additional snow chances arriving later this week.

According to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana, overnight lows tonight are expected to fall between 3 and 10 degrees, with the cold persisting into Wednesday. Daytime highs Wednesday are forecast to reach only the upper teens to mid-20s, despite partly cloudy skies.

Forecasters say a brief moderation Thursday will still feel chilly, with highs ranging from 23 to 30 degrees. However, another cold front is expected to arrive late Thursday night into Friday morning, bringing snow showers and gusty winds.

Snow chances increase to 30–60% on Friday, with the National Weather Service noting that light accumulations are possible, especially during morning hours. High temperatures Friday are expected to hover between 32 and 36 degrees, but breezy conditions could make it feel colder during the commute.

The coldest overnight temperatures are expected in rural and low-lying areas, including parts of St. Joseph, Elkhart, LaPorte, Marshall, Kosciusko, Allen, and Whitley counties, as well as neighboring areas of southwest Michigan. Cities such as South Bend, Elkhart, Fort Wayne, Warsaw, and Valparaiso may see wind chills dip near or below zero at times overnight.

Drivers are urged to monitor road conditions later this week, particularly early Friday, as untreated roads and bridges could become slick. Residents should also take precautions to protect pets, pipes, and exposed skin during prolonged cold conditions.
