South Bend, IN – Heavy rain from the remnants of Hurricane Beryl swept through northern Indiana, northwest Ohio, and southwest Lower Michigan from Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday. Parts of Indiana saw up to 7 inches of rainfall, causing significant flooding and sporadic tree damage across the region.

According to the National Weather Service, the torrential rain fell within 12-18 hours, inundating rivers, creeks, lakes, and roadways. The rainfall, which exceeded a month’s average, combined with wind gusts of 35-45 mph, caused notable disruptions and damage in areas with already saturated soils. This marked the first direct impact from tropical remnants in the region since Tropical Storm Alberto in 2018.
