FORT WAYNE, IN – Clear skies and crisp air greet northeast Indiana this Monday morning, but the still calm won’t last long. By Tuesday, a developing front will push showers, gusty winds, and the region’s first early chill of late fall across much of the Hoosier north.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, high pressure keeps conditions sunny and mild through much of today, with highs near 63 °F. Winds stay light through the morning before strengthening late. By late tonight, clouds build and scattered showers arrive—especially after midnight along I-69 and through Allen, DeKalb, and Huntington counties. Gusts could reach 30 mph in exposed areas as a new wave of cooler air settles in.

Tuesday will stay unsettled with passing showers through the afternoon, though rain totals remain light. Temperatures top out near 61 °F before dropping sharply Tuesday night into the lower 40s. Another round of showers could linger into Wednesday morning, followed by clearing skies and brisk northwest winds. That flow will usher in the season’s first widespread cold snap, sending lows into the mid-30s by Thursday night.

Gardeners and farmers should prepare now for possible first frost conditions late week, particularly in rural zones west of Fort Wayne where winds calm sooner. The weekend then trends brighter but cool, with highs in the 50s and crisp mornings ideal for fall events and fieldwork.

By the look of models, winter’s early fingerprints are starting to show—no snow yet, but the transition is well underway.
