Cass, MI – Heavy lake effect snow is set to blanket parts of Michigan starting tonight, prompting a Winter Storm Warning. Residents should prepare for up to 8 inches of snow, with wind gusts reaching 50 mph.

According to the National Weather Service, the warning will be in effect from 5 p.m. today through 1 a.m. Friday. The storm is expected to severely impact visibility and road conditions, particularly during the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes. Rapid shifts in weather are likely, creating dangerous driving conditions across Cass, St. Joseph, and Berrien Counties.

Drivers are advised to avoid unnecessary travel. If travel is essential, keep an emergency kit in your vehicle, including a flashlight, food, and water. Local authorities suggest monitoring Michigan’s 511 road conditions hotline for real-time updates on closures and hazards.

The storm’s intensity will vary across affected areas, with snow bands bringing sudden whiteouts in some locations while others remain relatively clear. Tree branches could also fall due to high winds, potentially causing power outages.

Looking ahead, the five-day forecast shows cold conditions persisting, with additional snow showers likely through the weekend. Daytime highs will remain in the upper 20s, dipping into the teens overnight.

Residents are urged to stay informed by following updates from local emergency management and the National Weather Service. Prepare now for power outages, limited visibility, and icy roads.
