Fort Wayne, IN – The first measurable snow of the season is expected across northern Indiana on Thursday, with 1–3 inches possible, primarily on grassy and elevated surfaces west of US-31. Strong winds, reduced visibility, and slick roads may impact travel during the afternoon and evening hours.

According to the US National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, rain showers will transition to snow overnight into Thursday morning. The heaviest snowfall is projected between noon and 3 p.m., although accumulation will likely remain light due to warm ground temperatures in the mid-30s. Gusty winds up to 30 mph could contribute to hazardous conditions, especially on elevated roadways like bridges.

Drivers should prepare for potentially slippery conditions and reduced visibility, particularly along US-31, where snowfall could be heaviest. Travelers are advised to allow extra time for their commutes and check road conditions before heading out.

After Thursday, the region will see rain showers Friday, followed by mostly dry weather through the weekend. Thursday night temperatures will dip into the low 30s, keeping roads wet but minimizing snow buildup. Highs on Friday will reach the mid-40s before clearing skies bring a cooler but calm Saturday, with highs near 47°F.
