Crown Point, IN – Aspiring birth support professionals will have the opportunity to gain essential training this fall as Franciscan Health Crown Point hosts a DONA International Birth Doula workshop over two weekends in October.

According to Franciscan Health, the training will be held Oct. 4-5 and Oct. 18-19 at the hospital’s Family Birth Center, located at 12750 St. Francis Drive. Classes run from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Central each day, and participants must attend all four sessions to receive a certificate of completion.

Doulas are trained professionals who provide continuous emotional, physical and informational support before, during and shortly after childbirth. While they do not perform clinical tasks, doulas often assist in communicating a birth plan, creating a supportive delivery environment, and helping families navigate the childbirth experience. Franciscan Health Crown Point currently offers free volunteer doula services to families through its Family Birth Center program.

The upcoming workshop will fulfill two key requirements toward certification as a DONA International Certified Birth Doula: Introduction to Childbirth and Doula Birth Training. The cost for the training is $600, which must be paid within four days of registration.

Registration is open online and will close Sept. 22. Participants must be at least 18 years old. For additional details or to register, interested individuals may call (219) 746-9134.
