Chicago, Ill. – Summerlike warmth will hold through Tuesday, but a sharp pattern change is on the way with storms Wednesday followed by much cooler air.
According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, dry and mild conditions will dominate early in the week with highs in the mid-70s to low 80s. Lows will stay in the 50s and 60s, warmest near the lake. By Wednesday afternoon, a cold front will spark widespread showers and a few thunderstorms, especially across northern Illinois and northwest Indiana.
Storm chances rise to 60–70% Wednesday evening, with downpours likely to impact commuters along I-90, I-94, and I-55. Some storms could linger into the overnight before clearing out Thursday morning. Behind the front, highs will tumble into the upper 50s and low 60s Thursday, nearly 20 degrees cooler than Tuesday.
The weather service is warning of a high swim risk along northwest Indiana beaches Thursday due to strong northerly winds and large waves on Lake Michigan. Swimmers are urged to avoid entering the water.
Conditions remain cool into Friday with lows dipping into the 40s. More advisories are possible if strong lake winds continue.
