Chicago, Illinois – Isolated afternoon storms could sweep across areas south of I-80 through Tuesday, bringing brief downpours and lightning from Streator, Illinois to Fowler, Indiana before heat and humidity ramp up heading into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, the highest chance for scattered storms sits along and south of the I-80 corridor Tuesday afternoon. While the storm coverage is expected to remain low — around 20% — any showers that do form could produce gusty winds and may linger near lake breezes through sunset.

Communities like Kankakee, Pontiac, and Rensselaer should stay weather-aware during the early evening hours. Rain chances drop sharply midweek, but temperatures will steadily climb, reaching the upper 80s to low 90s by Friday with rising humidity.

Drivers along I-55, I-57, and U.S. 41 should watch for slick roads during brief pop-up storms, especially during the afternoon commute. Keep devices charged and avoid outdoor work during storm activity.

Storm chances diminish by Wednesday, but warmer, more humid air settles in through Friday. No further alerts have been issued yet, but additional advisories could follow if instability increases.
