CHICAGO, Ill. — The National Weather Service in Chicago is monitoring a developing storm system expected to bring showers and a few thunderstorms to northern Illinois late Friday into Saturday, marking a shift from the mild and dry weather that has dominated much of the week.
After several warm afternoons in the upper 60s to mid-70s, a cold front will move through the region Saturday, increasing rain chances across the Chicago area — particularly along and south of Interstate 80.
Confidence is growing that parts of the region could see periods of rain and a few thunderstorms Saturday afternoon and evening. While severe weather is not currently expected, forecasters note that locally heavy downpours and brief gusty winds could accompany stronger storms.
Behind the front, temperatures will drop into the 40s and low 50s Saturday night, ushering in a cooler and breezier pattern to end the weekend.
