Chicago, Illinois – A midweek cold front will knock down temperatures across northern Illinois on Wednesday and Thursday, but sunnier skies and warmer air are set to return just in time for the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, a noticeable drop in temperatures is expected Wednesday afternoon, especially along the Lake Michigan shoreline where highs will struggle to reach 70°F. Thursday will remain cooler, with much of the area topping out in the upper 50s to upper 60s before a warming trend resumes Friday.
Chicago, Waukegan, and Evanston will see falling temps Wednesday after morning clouds and a chance of brief drizzle. Overnight lows will dip into the 40s through Friday, with some inland areas nearing the upper 30s Thursday night. Despite the brief chill, skies are expected to clear heading into the weekend.
No significant rainfall is expected through Saturday, allowing for dry commutes and outdoor activities. Drivers should still be cautious of cooler morning conditions near the lake, which could lead to patchy fog. Residents are advised to layer appropriately during the cooler midweek stretch and plan for warmer conditions by the weekend.
The National Weather Service notes a return to highs in the mid-70s by Saturday. Additional updates will be issued if temperature swings or lake breeze effects intensify.
