Chicago, IL – Residents across northern Illinois should prepare for an unsettled stretch of weather with periodic showers and thunderstorms continuing through midweek, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
Forecasters reported Sunday morning that while storm chances will be present each day through Thursday, the region will not experience a complete washout. Many hours are expected to remain dry between storm systems.
According to the NWS, storm activity Sunday will mainly develop east of Interstate 55 during the afternoon, with highs between 75 and 80 degrees. The highest rain chances will occur south of Interstate 80. Overnight lows will settle near 60 degrees.
On Monday, the chance of rain and thunderstorms remains elevated south of I-80, while temperatures again reach the upper 70s. Tuesday will bring another round of scattered showers and storms with highs holding steady in the mid to upper 70s.
By Wednesday, cooler air will filter in, dropping highs into the upper 60s to mid-70s. Scattered showers will still be possible, but conditions may trend drier late in the day. Thursday will close out the stretch with isolated storm chances of 20 to 30 percent, with highs in the upper 60s.
Travelers and commuters should remain alert for changing conditions, especially during the afternoon and evening hours when storms are most likely.
