Northern Illinois Weather Alert: Thunderstorms and Extreme Heat to Impact North I-88

Chicago, IL – Thunderstorms are expected to sweep through the Chicagoland area today, accompanied by very humid conditions and a peak heat index reaching up to 110° in some regions. The National Weather Service predicts two rounds of storms, one this morning and another this evening, with the most severe weather likely to occur later today.

According to the National Weather Service, the initial wave of storms, including stronger cells with gusty winds, will primarily affect areas north of I-88. Regions that experienced flooding last night, particularly around I-90, may see additional impacts with this next wave. This morning’s storm activity is expected to pass through mid-morning, while the evening storms could bring damaging winds and heavy downpours.

The extended forecast indicates that Sunday will remain very humid with a high of 90-93°F and peak heat indices between 100-105°F. Monday is expected to be equally humid with temperatures reaching 90-94°F and a heat index of up to 110°F. The risk of thunderstorms continues, though with a lesser chance of severe weather. By Tuesday, temperatures will range from 81-87°F with potential storm activity mainly south of I-55. Wednesday will bring a slight relief with highs between 77-81°F and drier conditions expected later in the week.
