Chicago, Illinois – Chicago faces dangerous heat and late-day storms Thursday, July 24th — but a much-needed cooldown is coming by Tuesday, when highs dip into the 70s.

According to the National Weather Service, a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 10 p.m. Thursday across Cook County. Heat indices are expected to reach 107°F, with air temperatures hitting 97°F under hazy sun and building humidity. Storms may develop after 1 p.m. Thursday, with gusty winds and heavy rainfall possible along I-290, US-41, and near the Lakefront during the evening commute.

Storm chances continue through Saturday, with 60–70% odds of showers Friday into Friday night. While Saturday remains warm in the upper 80s, drier air and cooler temps begin filtering in Sunday.

Relief arrives Tuesday, July 29, with highs only reaching 74°F — nearly 20 degrees cooler than Thursday. Humidity will ease, and skies clear as a brief spell of fall-like air settles in midweek.
