Chicago, IL – Drivers across northern Illinois are waking up to dense fog this Sunday morning, with visibility reduced to a quarter mile or less in several areas. According to the US National Weather Service Chicago, the fog is expected to linger through mid-morning before gradually clearing after sunrise.

The heaviest fog has been reported in interior northern Illinois, particularly around Rockford, Aurora, and surrounding communities. Motorists are advised to slow down, allow extra travel time, and increase following distance to avoid accidents. Hazardous travel conditions may persist until around 9 a.m.

Looking ahead, the five-day outlook calls for generally warm and dry conditions. Highs are expected to reach between 80 and 90 degrees through midweek, with slightly cooler readings near Lake Michigan due to daily lake breezes. Overnight lows will remain in the 60s.

Monday and Tuesday are forecast to remain mostly sunny, with highs around 88 to 90 degrees inland. By Thursday, a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms could bring some relief from the heat.

Residents should remain alert for changing travel conditions this morning, especially in low-lying and rural areas prone to heavier fog.
