Chicago, IL – A blast of late-summer heat will grip Chicago Friday, sending afternoon highs soaring to 94°F and making it one of the hottest days of August so far. Light winds and mostly clear skies will allow the city to bake through the afternoon, creating potential heat stress for anyone outdoors for long periods.

According to the National Weather Service, Friday’s heat will be fueled by steady sunshine and south winds up to 5 mph, with occasional gusts near 10 mph. Overnight lows will only fall to about 75°F, keeping the air warm and humid into Saturday morning. The weekend brings a shift toward partly cloudy skies, with highs near 84°F Sunday before storm chances increase early next week.

City health officials advise limiting strenuous outdoor activity during peak heating hours, drinking plenty of water, and checking on vulnerable neighbors. Outdoor plans for Friday should include shade breaks and sunscreen.

The heat will ease slightly over the weekend, but a return to unsettled weather is expected Monday, with showers and thunderstorms possible through Tuesday. More updates will be issued if storm threats intensify.
