Chicago, Illinois – Chicago and much of northern Illinois will bake under oppressive heat this weekend, with dangerous heat indices between 100°F and 110°F expected from Saturday through Tuesday. The National Weather Service warns the most extreme conditions will occur along and south of Interstate 80, where prolonged exposure could be hazardous.
According to the National Weather Service Chicago office, clusters of thunderstorms may develop periodically during this stretch, particularly near the Wisconsin border and during late afternoon hours. While many areas will remain dry for long periods, sudden downpours, lightning, and gusty winds are possible when storms do form.
Daytime highs will range from the upper 80s to mid-90s, with overnight lows in the low to mid-70s providing little relief from the heat. Outdoor activities should be limited during peak afternoon hours, and residents are urged to stay hydrated, check on vulnerable neighbors, and never leave children or pets in parked vehicles.
Conditions are expected to trend cooler and less humid by the middle of next week, ending the multi-day heat wave. Additional heat advisories or storm watches may be issued if conditions worsen.
