Chicago, IL – Scattered showers are expected this afternoon, with a 20-30% chance of thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Breezy conditions return Sunday, bringing a significant drop in temperatures early next week.
According to NWS, Northern Illinois could see late-day storms Saturday, while Sunday’s cooler breezes will affect areas near Lake Michigan. By Monday, lake-effect showers are likely, with temperatures dropping to the low 50s. Overnight frost is possible starting Monday and Tuesday, especially in areas outside of Chicago.
The risk of freezing temperatures extends into midweek, with highs around 55-61°F. Frost is anticipated overnight in northern regions, with lows dipping into the mid-30s. Residents are urged to take precautions for frost-sensitive plants and prepare for cooler temperatures.
The five-day outlook includes some lake-effect snow in northwest Indiana and northern Illinois as temperatures continue to fall. This marks one of the first significant cold fronts of the season for the Chicago area.
