Chicago, IL – The National Weather Service in Chicago has released snowfall totals from the December 6–7 winter storm, which brought widespread accumulation across northern Illinois and northwest Indiana overnight Saturday into Sunday morning.
According to the NWS, areas north of Interstate 80 saw the most significant snowfall, with 2–5 inches common and a narrow corridor of 5–7 inches extending from Rockford through Elgin to Waukegan near the Wisconsin border.
Some of the highest reported totals include:
- Sleepy Hollow: 7.1 inches
- Lindenhurst: 7.0 inches
- Capron: 7.0 inches
- Greenwood: 6.9 inches
- Elgin: 6.6 inches
Meanwhile, Chicago O’Hare International Airport recorded 4.8 inches, Rockford Airport measured 5.8 inches, and areas south of I-80 generally saw 1–3 inches.
The NWS said the snowfall came from a fast-moving clipper system that began late Saturday night and ended early Sunday morning. Despite the light and powdery nature of the snow, slick travel conditions were reported across much of the region early Sunday.
Meteorologists thanked volunteers and media partners for providing snowfall reports that helped verify totals across the region.
