Chicago, IL – Northern Illinois will see unseasonably warm and dry weather this week, with temperatures climbing near 90 degrees in some areas, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). The extended stretch of sunshine means the region may not see meaningful rainfall until the second week of October.

According to the NWS Chicago office, highs Monday are expected to range from 82 to 90 degrees across the area, with slightly cooler readings near Lake Michigan on Tuesday. Overnight lows through midweek will remain mild, staying mostly in the low 50s to mid-60s. Patchy shallow fog may develop late tonight, particularly in outlying areas.

The warm pattern is forecast to continue through at least Thursday, with daytime highs in the mid-70s to low 80s and partly sunny skies. Forecasters note that the current stretch of above-normal temperatures is more typical of mid-summer than late September.

For residents, this means favorable conditions for outdoor activities but ongoing dry soils and increasing stress on late-season crops and gardens. Officials continue to monitor conditions for any changes, but no significant rain is expected until at least October 6–7.
