Chicago, IL – Northern Illinois may face severe storms starting this afternoon. The US National Weather Service warns of potential damaging winds, hail, and torrential rain. Storms are likely to develop after 4 PM CDT and persist into the night, especially south of I-80.

According to the US National Weather Service, the storm activity is driven by hot and humid conditions combined with a cold front moving through the region. Residents are advised to have multiple ways to receive weather alerts and stay indoors if severe weather develops.

Looking ahead to the weekend, the forecast shows fluctuating conditions. Wednesday and Friday each have a 50% chance of rain with temperatures reaching the low 80s. Thursday brings a brief respite with partly sunny skies and highs in the mid-70s. Saturday has a 45% chance of showers with a high of 84°F, while Sunday is expected to be sunny with a high of 72°F. This variability in weather underscores the importance of staying informed and prepared for sudden changes.
