Chicago, IL – A line of thunderstorms crossing southern Wisconsin is expected to brush northern Illinois, primarily north of I-88, overnight through sunrise Tuesday. Gusty winds and small hail can be expected with these storms, with the potential for locally damaging winds.
According to the US National Weather Service in Chicago, the storms are predicted to develop between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m., with some isolated storms persisting beyond 7 a.m. Residents in the affected areas, including Rockford, Elgin, and Waukegan, should prepare for possible lightning strikes, downpours, and gusty winds.
The severe weather threat level is classified as a level 2 on a scale of 1 to 5, indicating a moderate risk for severe weather. The strongest storms may produce damaging winds capable of downing tree limbs and fences, as well as small hail.
Looking ahead, the forecast for the week shows mostly clear skies after the storms pass. Wednesday is expected to be sunny with a high of 78°F. Thursday will bring partly cloudy conditions with temperatures reaching 81°F. The rest of the week will see temperatures in the mid to upper 70s, with clear skies expected through the weekend.
