Houston, TX – The National Weather Service (NWS) Houston/Galveston is monitoring a weak tropical disturbance over the north-central Gulf of Mexico this weekend, though officials say it poses no threat of tropical development.
According to the National Hurricane Center’s 8 a.m. update Sunday, October 5, 2025, the system carries a 0% chance of cyclone formation over the next 48 hours. The disturbance, located near the coasts of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama, is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms as it drifts northwest toward Texas.
While development is not expected, forecasters caution that the system will enhance moisture and contribute to hazardous marine and beach conditions through early in the week. Beachgoers across the upper Texas coast are advised to remain alert for strong rip currents and rough surf.
The NWS says the disturbance could also bring scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms across coastal Texas as it moves inland. Residents and visitors are encouraged to monitor updates and beach safety advisories.
