La Paz, Mexico – Mariners in the Northern Gulf of California are urged to exercise caution tonight as a gale warning remains in effect, with strong southerly winds creating hazardous conditions for smaller vessels.

According to the National Hurricane Center in Miami, winds from the south will range from 10 to 15 knots this evening before strengthening to 15 to 20 knots overnight. Seas will remain relatively low, near 3 feet, but individual wave action may be more severe under gale-force gusts.

By Thursday morning, winds are expected to ease slightly, shifting to southeasterly at 10 knots with calmer seas. Conditions will remain manageable through the weekend, with light to moderate breezes continuing across the gulf and wave heights generally below 4 feet.

Authorities advise small craft to remain in port tonight until winds subside. Larger commercial vessels should still be prepared for localized choppier waters and short wave periods that could impact maneuverability.

The strongest winds are likely to impact the northern corridor of the gulf, including routes between Puerto Peñasco and San Felipe, before tapering off by Thursday night.

Updates will continue as new advisories are issued, with the current gale warning expected to expire once winds ease Thursday morning.
