Bridgeport, CT – Travel across northern Fairfield County and the lower Hudson Valley could grind to a halt by 1 p.m. Sunday as up to 15 inches of snow and 45 mph wind gusts create whiteout conditions through 6 p.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, a Blizzard Warning is in effect for northern Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex and New London counties in Connecticut, along with Rockland and northern Westchester counties in New York. Snow totals will range from 11 to 15 inches, while wind gusts could reach 45 mph, especially Sunday evening into Monday afternoon.

Visibility may drop below a quarter mile at times as falling and blowing snow sweeps across I-95, the Merritt Parkway, I-84 and the New York State Thruway. Roads could quickly become snow-covered despite treatment, and drifting snow may block secondary streets in communities such as Danbury, Stamford, White Plains and New City.

Heavy snow combined with strong wind gusts may weigh down tree limbs and snap branches, leading to scattered power outages across interior Connecticut and the Hudson Valley.

Officials urge residents to avoid non-essential travel beginning Sunday afternoon. If you must drive, carry blankets, food, water and a charged phone, and remain with your vehicle if stranded. Blizzard conditions are expected to severely impact both the Monday morning and evening commutes, with warnings remaining in effect until 6 p.m. Monday.
