WILMINGTON, Del. – Delaware’s stretch of picture-perfect fall weather will take a turn late Sunday as a developing system brings rain and gusty winds to northern parts of the state. After a bright and mild start to the weekend, the I-95 corridor could see slick travel conditions and reduced visibility Sunday night into early Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a 20 percent chance of afternoon showers increases to 80 percent by late Sunday. South winds will strengthen to 10–15 mph with gusts near 30 mph, particularly across open stretches of I-495 and the Delaware Memorial Bridge. Residents should secure lightweight outdoor decorations and expect slower travel if returning from weekend trips Sunday evening.

Saturday remains the standout day for outdoor plans, featuring plenty of sunshine, calm winds, and a high near 68°F—ideal for pumpkin picking, leaf-peeping, or yardwork. Sunday will start mostly sunny before clouds increase and showers develop late. By Monday morning, scattered rain will linger before clearing brings drier and slightly cooler air.

Forecasters expect the rest of the week to stay seasonable with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s and cool, crisp nights in the 40s. Another weak system could brush the area by midweek with a few isolated showers. Delawareans should take advantage of Saturday’s sunshine before the late-weekend shift to breezy, unsettled conditions reminds the region that true fall weather has arrived.
