Denver, CO – Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop across northern Colorado today, with the potential for severe weather from late morning through the evening. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Denver/Boulder warns that some storms could produce damaging winds reaching 60 mph and small hail through tonight.

According to the NWS, storms will begin forming around 10 a.m. in the mountains, expand along the Interstate 25 corridor between noon and 6 p.m., and continue into the plains through about 8 p.m. Saturday. Areas north of Interstate 70, including Fort Collins, Greeley, and Sterling, have the highest risk of strong storms.

The main hazards include strong wind gusts, hail, and localized flooding. Tornado potential remains low, but residents are advised to remain weather-aware throughout the day as conditions evolve. Outdoor plans should be adjusted, and those traveling along I-70 and I-25 should prepare for rapidly changing weather and reduced visibility during heavier showers.

Officials encourage residents to secure loose outdoor items and stay indoors when storms approach. “Be prepared for sudden strong winds when storms develop,” the NWS said in its Saturday morning briefing.

This system is expected to move east later tonight, bringing calmer conditions to most of the Front Range by early Sunday morning.
