Albuquerque, NM – A broad Winter Weather Advisory has been issued across northern and central New Mexico, with the National Weather Service in Albuquerque warning of snow accumulation and hazardous travel from Wednesday afternoon through early Thursday morning.

Forecasters say areas including the Tusas Mountains, Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Jemez Mountains, and Sandia and Manzano ranges could see 4 to 8 inches of snow above 7,500 feet, with up to 10 inches on the highest peaks. Lower elevations are expected to receive 1 to 4 inches.

According to the National Weather Service, snow will begin accumulating near the Colorado border late Wednesday morning, spreading southward through the afternoon. The heaviest snowfall is expected Wednesday evening, when visibility could drop below half a mile at times.

Travelers are urged to use caution on I-25 over Glorieta Pass, I-40 through Tijeras Canyon, and routes between Moriarty and Santa Rosa, where snow-packed and icy road conditions are likely during the evening commute and again Thursday morning.

Residents are advised to monitor NMroads.com or call 511 for real-time updates on road closures and conditions. The weather service reminds motorists to slow down, extend following distances, and be prepared for sudden changes in visibility.
