Mount Shasta, CA – A powerful winter storm is set to impact Siskiyou County, bringing heavy snowfall and strong winds from Wednesday night through early Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Medford, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 10 p.m. Wednesday to 4 a.m. Friday for South Central and Southeast Siskiyou County, including Mount Shasta City, Dunsmuir, McCloud, and Tennant. Snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches are expected in most areas, with up to 18 inches possible above 4,500 feet. Wind gusts could reach 60 mph at higher elevations, potentially causing tree damage and power outages.
Major roadways, including Interstate 5 from Black Butte Summit southward and Highway 89 east of Mount Shasta City, are expected to see dangerous travel conditions. Snow levels will start around 1,800 feet Wednesday night, rising to 4,000 feet Thursday evening, bringing heavy snow overnight before transitioning to rain at lower elevations.
