Etna, CA – A powerful winter storm is set to impact Western Siskiyou County from 10 p.m. Wednesday until 4 a.m. Friday, bringing heavy snowfall and strong windsthat could make travel dangerous.

According to the National Weather Service in Medford, snowfall above 3,000 feet is expected to total between 4 and 12 inches, with some higher elevations seeing up to 22 inches. Wind gusts could reach 55 mph, creating whiteout conditions and increasing the risk of tree damage and power outages.

The storm will impact travel along Sawyers Bar Road west of Etna and Highway 3 from Callahan to Scott Mountain summit. The worst conditions are expected Thursday morning and evening, potentially disrupting commutes and making roads nearly impassable.

Safety Tips:

• Avoid travel unless necessary.

• If driving, carry an emergency kit with a flashlight, food, and water.

• Check road conditions at quickmap.dot.ca.gov or call 511 before heading out.

Authorities warn of potential power outages and fallen trees due to the combination of heavy snow and strong winds. Residents should prepare for extended hazardous conditions through early Friday morning.
