Eureka, CA – A winter storm is set to bring heavy snow to interior Northern California, with travel impacts expected along major mountain passes starting this weekend.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Eureka, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect from late Saturday through late Monday night for elevations above 2,500 feet in Northern Trinity County. Snowfall could reach up to 12 inches in higher elevations, particularly along highways such as 299 and 3.
Further north, Del Norte Interior and Northern Humboldt Interior are also under a Winter Storm Watch from late Sunday night through late Monday night. These areas could see between 2 and 8 inches of snow above 2,500 feet. Snow levels may drop to as low as 2,000 feet by early Tuesday, with additional snowfall possible midweek.
Officials warn that travel conditions could become hazardous, especially along key routes like Berry Summit, Scott Mountain, Buckhorn Summit, and Oregon Mountain. Drivers are advised to check road conditions and carry chains if traveling through higher elevations.
