Sacramento, CA – Strong winds are battering Northern California as a high wind warning remains in effect until 11 p.m. Sunday, impacting areas across the Northern Sacramento Valley, including Redding, Red Bluff, and the Northeast Foothills.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Sacramento, gusts are reaching 50 to 65 mph east of the Interstate 5 corridor, with slightly lower speeds of 40 to 50 mph west of I-5. The Northeast Foothills, including Paradise, are also experiencing significant wind activity with gusts up to 65 mph. These conditions are expected to peak during the morning and afternoon hours before gradually tapering off late in the evening.

The NWS warns that these strong southerly winds pose risks of widespread power outages as trees and power lines may be blown down. Residents are urged to take precautions, especially in forested areas, and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities near trees and loose objects. High-profile vehicles should exercise extreme caution while traveling, as gusty conditions could make driving hazardous.

Officials advise staying in lower levels of buildings during the windstorm and avoiding windows. Residents should also prepare for possible power disruptions and remain vigilant for falling debris. Emergency response teams are on standby as the region braces for potential damage from the severe winds.
