Eureka, California – Coastal communities in Northern California are bracing for powerful wind gusts up to 40 mph through Saturday evening, with the strongest impacts expected near Point Arena, Cobb, and Crescent City.
According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, northerly winds are already active across the region, with a brief lull expected midday in interior areas before gusts intensify again later this afternoon. Coastal winds, particularly near Point Arena, are expected to peak between 5 and 8 p.m., reaching up to 40 mph.
In Cobb, gusts topped 33 mph by late morning and will remain elevated around 30 mph into the evening. Crescent City and Eureka are also seeing sustained gusts in the upper 20s, with continued strengthening expected along the immediate coastline. Inland locations such as Lakeport and Ukiah may see gusts reaching the upper 20s before tapering off tonight.
Drivers on Highways 101 and 20 should anticipate difficult travel due to crosswinds and potential debris on roadways. Secure outdoor objects and avoid elevated coastal trails where wind exposure is greatest.
