Weed, CA – Strong winds will sweep through the Shasta Valley starting this afternoon, with gusts up to 50 mph expected to rattle homes, highways, and trees through late Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Medford, a Wind Advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. Sunday through 5 p.m. Monday for central Siskiyou County. The warning includes Weed, Grenada, Montague, Gazelle, and stretches of Interstate 5 and Highway 97.
Drivers of high-profile vehicles may find conditions especially dangerous, with sudden gusts making lane control difficult. Residents should also prepare for possible power outages as trees, still heavy with foliage, could shed limbs or topple onto lines. Lighter outdoor items such as trash bins and patio furniture should be secured.
Travelers along I-5 near Weed and Montague may face reduced visibility from blowing dust and debris, while Highway 97 north of Weed could see crosswinds strong enough to affect commercial trucks.
The advisory remains in effect through late Monday afternoon, with the strongest winds expected Sunday evening into Monday morning.
