Eureka, CA – Northern California residents are being urged to prepare for strong winds beginning late Tuesday morning as a Wind Advisory takes effect across Humboldt and Del Norte counties. The advisory, issued by the National Weather Service Eureka office, will remain in effect from 11 a.m. Tuesday through 1 a.m. Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service, south to southeast winds of 25 to 35 miles per hour are expected, with gusts reaching 45 to 55 miles per hour. The strongest winds will impact high ridges and coastal headlands in Humboldt and Del Norte counties.
Forecasters warn that impacts may include falling tree limbs, loose objects being blown around, and potential power outages. Drivers are advised to use caution, especially in exposed areas where gusts may be more severe.
Wind speeds are expected to increase steadily through Tuesday afternoon, peaking in the evening hours before tapering off by early Wednesday morning. Areas such as Eureka, Crescent City, and Fortuna could experience notable gusts, while more exposed headlands may see the strongest impacts.
Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items and prepare for possible service disruptions. Utility crews may be deployed if power outages occur.
