EUREKA, Calif. – The North Coast is bracing for a rough, wind-swept stretch as a Pacific storm system races ashore this evening, bringing gusty winds, driving rain, and the potential for scattered power outages across Humboldt County. Early morning calm will fade fast as clouds thicken and the first bands of rain push inland by late afternoon.

The National Weather Service in Eureka has issued a Wind Advisory from 6 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday for the Northern Humboldt Coast, including Eureka, Trinidad, and Fortuna. Southerly winds are expected to reach 25 to 35 mph, with gusts near 50 mph, especially along exposed ridges and coastal bluffs. Forecasters warn that the strongest gusts will occur after dark, when driving may become challenging along U.S. 101 and other north–south routes.

Residents should secure outdoor objects, avoid parking under large trees, and prepare for possible short-term power interruptions. High-profile vehicles, such as RVs and delivery trucks, will face added crosswind hazards along coastal roads and elevated terrain.

Rain will intensify through tonight, becoming steady to heavy at times before tapering Thursday afternoon. Expect rainfall totals between three-quarters and one inch along the coast, with lighter amounts inland. Winds will ease through midday Thursday, but showers could linger into early Friday.

After a blustery start, the weekend turns calmer and brighter, offering a window for cleanup and early Thanksgiving travel. Highs climb near 60°F by Saturday with partial sunshine before another system may approach the coast next week — a reminder that November’s winter transition is well underway across Northern California.
