Santa Rosa, California – Temperatures will dip to 34 degrees by daybreak Wednesday across parts of the North Bay and Southern Salinas Valley, creating a risk of hypothermia and crop damage beginning at midnight tonight.
According to the National Weather Service in San Francisco, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect from midnight tonight until 9 a.m. Wednesday for the North Bay Interior Mountains, North Bay Interior Valleys, and the Southern Salinas Valley including Arroyo Seco and Lake San Antonio. Clear skies and light winds will allow temperatures to fall into the mid-30s, especially in rural valleys and low-lying agricultural areas.
Communities near Santa Rosa, Napa, and inland Marin County could see patchy frost by early Wednesday morning. Farther south, growers in the Salinas Valley and around Lake San Antonio should prepare for sensitive crops to be exposed to several hours of near-freezing conditions.
Officials urge residents to check on unhoused neighbors and older adults, as prolonged exposure can quickly lead to hypothermia. Use space heaters safely and never operate generators or grills indoors due to carbon monoxide risk. Dress in layers if heading out before sunrise and ensure pets and livestock have warm shelter and unfrozen water.
Temperatures will rebound after 9 a.m. Wednesday, but additional cold advisories are possible if clear overnight conditions persist later this week.
