Bridgeport, Calif. – Thick smoke is blanketing Mono County, cutting visibility to less than a mile and raising health concerns through late Monday morning. The National Weather Service has issued a Dense Smoke Advisory, warning drivers and residents to prepare for degraded air quality and challenging travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Reno, the advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. Monday. Smoke is expected to linger across much of the region, with the heaviest impacts along US-395, Mono County’s main north-south corridor. Reduced visibility could make morning commutes hazardous, particularly in low-lying areas where smoke settles.

Emergency managers urge residents to limit outdoor activity, especially those with asthma or heart conditions. Motorists should allow extra travel time, use headlights, and be prepared for sudden drops in visibility. Anyone working outdoors is encouraged to take frequent breaks and avoid strenuous activity.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve by midday Monday as winds shift, though additional advisories may be issued if smoke persists.
