San Francisco, CA – A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect through 10 a.m. Tuesday for parts of the Central California coast, including the San Mateo Peninsula Coast, Monterey Bay region, and northern Salinas Valley, according to the National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area/Monterey.

Forecasters warn that visibility could drop below a quarter-mile in many locations, especially along coastal highways and low-lying valleys. The dense fog is expected to lift by late morning as temperatures rise.

According to the National Weather Service, the thick fog may make driving hazardous during the morning commute. Motorists are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and leave extra distance between vehicles. Commuters should also plan for delays and reduced travel speeds on Highway 1, Highway 101, and surrounding routes.

Weather officials note that this type of dense coastal fog is typical for October but can still cause serious travel issues, particularly for early-morning drivers. The advisory is expected to expire by mid-morning once visibility improves.
