EUREKA, Calif. – A cold, clear night is setting up frost formation across parts of coastal and inland northwest California, with Frost Advisories in effect for the early morning hours Monday and again Tuesday for inland valleys. Temperatures will dip to near freezing overnight, threatening outdoor plants and sensitive vegetation.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, the advisory runs from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday for Del Norte and the northern Humboldt Coast, including Arcata and McKinleyville. Lows near 33°F could produce widespread frost, except in locations immediately along the shoreline where marine air will keep readings slightly warmer.

A second Frost Advisory will follow early Tuesday from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. for the Trinity County valleys and northeastern Mendocino interior, including Weaverville, Hayfork, Douglas City, and Covelo. These sheltered mountain basins will see the most intense cold, with calm winds and clear skies promoting frost development.

Residents are urged to cover tender plants, bring potted vegetation indoors, and disconnect outdoor hoses to prevent damage. Drivers should allow extra time to clear frost from windshields before the morning commute.

Sunny, dry weather will persist through the week, with cold mornings and mild afternoons typical of late October across northwest California.
