YREKA, Calif. – A Freeze Warning remains in effect through 9 a.m. Monday across the lower Klamath, Scott, and Shasta valleys, where sub-freezing temperatures as low as 28 degrees are expected to grip western and central Siskiyou County. The cold snap could damage late-season crops and unprotected outdoor plumbing.

According to the National Weather Service in Medford, the freeze warning includes Yreka, Weed, Etna, Fort Jones, Happy Camp, and Montague, with frost forming quickly before sunrise under mostly clear skies. Light fog in some valley bottoms may limit the intensity of the freeze, but forecasters say a 50% or higher chance remains for readings below 32 degrees in most communities.

The Siskiyou County Office of Emergency Services urges residents to cover outdoor plants, bring pets indoors, and drain irrigation lines and exposed pipes to prevent freezing. Gardeners and ranchers should take extra precautions to protect sensitive vegetation and water troughs.

Motorists using Interstate 5 and State Route 3 may encounter slick patches or localized fog near Yreka and the Scott Valley. Morning lows will recover slowly after sunrise, reaching the upper 50s by afternoon as dry fall air dominates.

Another cold night is likely Monday night before a gradual warming trend midweek brings highs back into the 60s and a return to mild, sunny weather across far Northern California.
