Eureka, CA – High tides are pushing water inland across parts of the Northern California coast today, with a Coastal Flood Advisory in effect through 3 p.m. Friday. Residents near Humboldt Bay and the surrounding shoreline should prepare for minor flooding as onshore winds and astronomical tides combine to raise water levels up to half a foot above ground.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, tides will peak near 9 feet at the North Spit gauge around 2:12 p.m. Friday. Low-lying roads, including Jackson Ranch Road in Arcata Bottoms and routes near King Salmon, could see saltwater washing across pavement during high tide and for up to two hours afterward. Motorists are urged to use caution and avoid flooded areas, as even shallow saltwater can damage vehicles and infrastructure.

Flooding may close local parks and shoreline access points near Humboldt Bay, especially where storm drains are backed up. Residents are encouraged to move vehicles to higher ground, protect sensitive electrical equipment, and stay alert for sudden tidal surges. While flooding impacts should ease by evening, coastal communities can expect continued high tides through the weekend.

Looking ahead, drier weather and cooler inland mornings will dominate much of Northern California through early next week, setting up crisp conditions for fall festivals and pumpkin patch visits by Sunday.
