EUREKA, Calif. – Gray skies and steady rain are sweeping across the North Coast this early Saturday morning as the next Pacific front pushes inland. Streetlights glisten on wet pavement from Old Town Eureka to Arcata, while strong waves hammer the shoreline—an early warning that fall storm season has arrived in full force.

The National Weather Service in Eureka has issued a High Surf Advisory through Monday morning. Waves could reach 20 to 25 feet along west-facing beaches, creating dangerous surf conditions and a high risk of sneaker waves. Residents are urged to stay off jetties, rocks, and coastal trails this weekend.

Rain will be widespread through Saturday afternoon, occasionally mixing with gusty south winds up to 25 mph. Travel along U.S. Highway 101 may be slow, especially through exposed coastal stretches near Trinidad and Orick. Showers taper by Sunday, but lingering clouds and drizzle may persist across the Humboldt Bay area into early Monday.

By Monday afternoon, skies begin to clear as a ridge of high pressure rebuilds. Sunshine and calmer seas return by Tuesday, with daytime highs climbing into the low 60s and cool nights dipping near 50°F.

The break in weather should hold through Halloween, offering dry and mild trick-or-treat conditions for the North Coast. Still, early November looks brisk—another chilly November ahead for coastal California.
