Eureka, California – Gusty winds arriving Tuesday night could make driving difficult and blow around loose objects across Northern California through Wednesday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, south to southeast winds will increase Tuesday evening ahead of an approaching cold front, with gusts reaching 25 to 35 mph. The strongest winds are expected across Del Norte County, including Crescent City and coastal headlands, where exposed areas could see even higher gusts.
Communities along Highway 101, especially near coastal bluffs and open stretches, may experience sudden crosswinds capable of impacting high-profile vehicles. Inland areas such as Weaverville and Willow Creek will also see breezy conditions, though slightly less intense.
Ridgetops and elevated terrain across Humboldt and Del Norte counties are particularly vulnerable to stronger gusts, which could knock around unsecured outdoor items and create brief driving hazards.
Residents should secure loose objects and use caution when traveling, especially in coastal and elevated areas. Winds are expected to gradually ease late Wednesday evening, though additional weather changes may follow as the system moves inland.
