Eureka, Calif. – The National Weather Service in Eureka has issued a storm warning for the Northern California coast, with wind gusts nearing 60 knots and seas reaching 18 feet through early Wednesday morning. The warning spans from Point St. George to Cape Mendocino and southward to Point Arena, where conditions are expected to remain hazardous into midweek.
According to the NWS Eureka office, sustained south winds between 30 and 40 knots will continue into Tuesday night, producing steep, confused seas. Mariners are urged to stay in port, alter course, or secure their vessels until conditions improve.
The strongest winds are forecast along outer coastal waters, where waves could capsize smaller craft and visibility may fall below safe navigation standards. Even experienced mariners should exercise extreme caution and delay departures until at least Wednesday morning.
By Wednesday afternoon, winds are expected to ease slightly, though elevated seas may persist offshore. Additional marine advisories could follow as the system moves through the region.
Warnings remain in effect through 7 a.m. Wednesday.
